Yusuf/Cat Stevens some song you grow to enjoy

Posted Posted by ts lim in Comments 0 comments

Some of his song was very melodic and original, will capture your heart in an instant. Some of his song you think its kinda boringly repetitive, but after many years of living and enduring the hardship, you start to change and you turn to enjoy the song you thought were boring, and you see the hidden substance.

The fist song of his that I fall in love with was "morning has broken". A haunting melody and a perfect musical arrangement. The guitar strumming accompanying with a stream of talking piano. Soon as it end the rewind button was hit and almost precisely at the beginning the stop button push and the strumming continue, those was the time of tape recording, to play back a song you'll need some time, but we done sweat the delay in anticipation, and the song get imprinted in the mind.

morning has broken

Used to savor his deep accent of folk, almost like tasting honey which is too sweet, listening to his folk song which is too folksy.

Sometime I wonder, maybe he is a better song writer than singer. The song he wrote make others more famous than he does. Of course to some part of the world he is too famous to surpass, but to the commercial scene some may not know his effort was the power behind very famous singer or should I say very rich singer, sometime with only one of his song bring to others maybe millions.

Wild world

Patiently listen through these, the deliciousness will slowly seep and you could taste the rare 70's sweetness.

And this has gone through to the 80's, still famous, still making money for someone else.

For those who been through the time of "muhhibah"

This song is so touching for me, I'd been through the era of Malaysia in the aura of"muhhibah" ( Harmony ). Since when did this vision been worn out, nobody have any idea, because it happens gradually, just like the story of the frog being cooked slowly in a gradually heating up water, even though the story may not be true but it reflects the situations of Malaysian, but with this song, we can see that there lives among Malaysians  who remembers those bonding we use to have. These people are trying to bring back our brotherly bond that buried deep in our society, which is now being purposely divided to serve someone's political ambition.

The scene that children playing paper football game brings back memories of our past, used to be no electronic devices with games, the only electronic device that carry entertaining function is the radio. Those time we used to listen to song from beginning till the end, but nowadays we don't do that anymore, so songs don't leave much impressions don't carry much emotions and feelings, the songs may still be of great quality like this one but we find it more difficult to sing along nowadays, because we are in a hurry, and that kills the deliciousness of a song which when brew long enough in our ears long enough will sink in our heart forever.

Unexpected place unexpected song

I was watching a science fiction drama (continuum,Rachel Nichols play Kiera Cameron) until this song came about. It was a back ground song of Hanna suicide, so sad...But with my latest understanding of living and dying, I am not feeling so sad, just watch with a different perspective, death is not the end of life, it is just a transition.
With the wonder of technology, now I can straight away look into the internet, and with this I fell in love with Dala. Simple and down to earth folk song, This type of music always attract me to dig deeper, I can see honesty without icing on their music, they don't seems to mind whether their music is lack of originality, creativity, just down right expressing their feelings through their music, that is all they seems to care. So glad to hear such sweet music again. Grateful to have them around making music for us.

Bic Runga

Gone and ...is she? Eva Cassidy

I was feeling down, and luckily I remembered to listen to music, and I got lifted, by...Paul Simon...James Taylor....and Eva Cassidy, a bit odd, to get to listen more of her music when she's pass on. At first I feel a bit too late to get to know her more, and I start's to think of friends who has pass on, starts to miss them, but then I said to myself, isn't that what they say her spirit lives on because of her music, than I feel better, its a good thing that many still remembered her, and she lives in their heart. Many will remembered her but how many remember us when we're gone? So I won't feel sad for her but happy for her...

The Beatle got their style with the 7th cord, she can sing out 7th how inspired she was.

My favorite Simon and Garfunkel song, being given a new life added some more spice. She can really induce new element into those songs that she covered, original may be good but her's are not less either.

The power of Mary Travers

This is in 1970 and I was only seven, thanks to technology I now can see this clip. They were one of my most favorites when I starts to learn guitar. Peter Paul and Mary, those that fall in love with you will never forgets you. With technologies that human developed, more of your fans are yet to be born. They are truly a legend in my heart. Simple combination, melodies rhyme and harmonies. Till the day I die, their songs will sooth my soul.

Jim Croce-Forgotten first love

Posted Posted by Inner Being in Comments 0 comments

I forgotten how did I get to know him, I think I heard his song "I'll have to say I love you in a song", I was still a student then, think I was at a friend's house, "Er" his name. it was a compilation of folk song. Later on whenever I came across music stall, I'll try looking for his album, found some and start listening, and find that his guitar playing was great staff but I was unable to pick up by merely listen to it (that's how I normally learn).

Than I found a song book, all Jim Croce's song and with simple tab on it, and I start to learn from that. Operator is one that I put lots of effort into it, but sadly cannot play without partner, only play along with the tape playing.

Great stuff, beautiful combinations of acoustic guitar playing, I only feel that his lyrics was mostly sad, and lonely. His music was original style, very folksy and individual, I think it will be great challenge to surpass himself if he didn't pass on in such a sudden manner.

Guitar beginner will love to play this song, but than again it's double guitar playing, you need partner for this one, or else half of the feeling gone...

With such simple musical instrument they manage to produce such effect! just perfect!

And this is what I meant by sweet song but negatively sad. Those day I was a lonely college student, riding my old bicycle slowly home, and this song imprinted in my brain, now it is like what nlp says "anchoring" that sad lonely feeling to me any time this song was played.

Another sad one but sooo beautifully done!

Remember the "I am easy"

How did this song came back to me? I don't know, it just sing in my head, don't even know who was the singer, but I remember the lyrics, "I am easy". With the miracles of you tube, I am able to hear it once again. Those audience looks old time but never the song, good song will last through time without carrying any wear and tare.

Wow! Paul Simon's new song

简俊杰introduce her to me(Alison Krauss)

Posted Posted by ts lim in Comments 0 comments

She was introduce to me by Mr Jian Jun Jie 简俊杰,than I heard this song, "I Will" an original Beatles song over a internet radio station ' Folk Alley '. She got great voice, a Grammy winner, her singing style was sweet and with deep feelings. I love her voice, her style, bluegrass folksy style. Only that most of her songs was kind of sad song about love and separation.

This is my favorite song, original sung by Simon and Garfunkel and off course written by Paul Simon, and those were the days of Folk Music. This kind of song to Alison Krauss is just a piece of cake, but I love it all, original and cover.

Still loving John Denver

My first ever, the cassette that I use my own money to buy. Since then I listen, fall in love with his songs, learn to play it on my guitar, and this one is my favorite guitar solo tune. used to catch it phrase by phrase by listening from my old cassette player, an old and broken cassette player.

His first song that I fell in love with was Annie's song, heard it was written for his wife Annie.

On second thought, maybe it was Take me home country road.

Actually the first time I heard of country road take me home was by Olivia Newton John. Those days my sister like to listen to pop music, and pop music was more like country songs and some kind of pop folk, like those of Glen Campbell , Gordon Lightfoot

Also now I think my English improve unconsciously by just listening to those songs, and humming it in my mind all the time, and it sink into my memory, and got digested some how. Also some very sweet songs by Olivia are fly away, these are songs written by John Denver.

Feel like old time again

Just come across this group, dunno much about them, but nice to listen to some old style music.

I think as a group project, their song sound fine,

Wow! There is somethin' with this one, short but dunno why I keep replay it way more than couple of times, many times.

Once my all day and night was only bread

Posted Posted by ts lim in Comments 0 comments

I use to just listen to them, I wanted to listen to no other song only bread. They can play soft and they can rock, their harmony was sweet, their inspiration pure. Those was some lonely days that I fill it up with learning to play their song, singing if to myself, and feeling full of life.

If you could read my mind

Posted Posted by ts lim in Comments 0 comments

Long time ago, I heard this song in a folk song compilation cassette, and I just can't help but repeat and replay, and rewind again, it's the melody that capture my heart.

Another song I like, heard this when I was in primary school, this one hold more memories, "If you could read my mind" give me more joy of music.

I am not sad for mary, she's more full of life than ever

Peter Paul And Mary, their first song that I fell in love was Early morning rain. It was a careless buy, when I picked up the cassette I don't know who they were. it was the time of cassette and I was buying just like treasure hunting in those day, no CD yet, and no internet, so I just buy to learn more of any music style that I could be of interest.

Their Harmony was perfect, simple guitar and voices, and the effect was the most beautiful music.

Only later that I found out, the song was written by Gordon Lightfoot,

Use to play this song over and over again

I love James Taylor because when I listen to him I have a sense of calmness. It was Handyman that I fell in love with the first time I heard James.

From Classical to Folk in love with Sinead O'Connor

The only song I love from Ralph Mctell, Streets of London. Music sounds like classical song Canon by Pachelbel, or should I say the cord progression sounds like it.

Sinead O'Connor make it sound so quiet and peaceful, I was mesmerized instantly. She uses idea of Ravel Bolero, starting with simple guitar music, than added a kind of classical piano, than come the base, the percussion, the violin and keyboard. great mix, and still able to keep the quiet effect.

Maurice Ravel - Ravel: Bolero

I love Sinead O'Connor, the passion in her voice, and the emotion. This is great, with all this mix, she still sounds like her own self.

Oh man i love this song

I was a teenage boy when I heard this songs. went to my grandma's house and my uncle played this album, bridge over trouble water, think he brought back from uk or something. Those day when they play anything on that hi fi , it was so loud and this song burnt into my brain. Love it , it gave me those blissful feeling when I hear it. Because of this I love folk music all my life.
